£2,950 DWP Compensation Next Week: WASPI Women to Receive Major Update!

The Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) generation of women could find out whether they will receive a £2,950 compensation from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as soon as next week. A key discussion regarding compensation for WASPI women is set to take place in Parliament, with a scheduled debate focused on the issue reported by Birmingham Live.

Scottish Labour MP Brian Leishman, a long-time advocate for WASPI women, reaffirmed his commitment to their cause. “I stood with the women when I was campaigning, attending rallies, protests, and demos. I’ve spoken with many WASPI women, not only from my constituency. I will continue supporting them in Parliament. If an opposition debate arises, I will vote in favor of justice for WASPI women and encourage my Labour colleagues to do the same,” said Leishman. He emphasized the importance of healthy debate within his party, stating, “Internal democracy within the Labour Party, as well as national democracy, is vital. We have stood by this issue for years, and we should not abandon our values.”

Alison Taylor, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, echoed the sentiment, saying, “WASPI women deserve fair compensation based on their individual circumstances.” Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar also expressed hope that parliamentary colleagues who have previously supported WASPI women will continue to do so in the upcoming debate.

Angela Madden, chair of WASPI, called on MPs to actively participate in the upcoming discussion. “We are reaching out to MPs who support our cause, urging them to attend the debate. We believe independents will also be present,” she said. Madden added that the debate will be crucial in gauging the current mood of Parliament. “The mood was clear on December 18th when the decision was made not to offer compensation, but now MPs have had time to reflect on the matter.”

As the debate approaches, the WASPI community eagerly awaits the outcome, hoping for a positive resolution that could bring much-needed financial relief to women impacted by changes to the state pension age.
