UK Households to Receive Free £800 Cost of Living Payments

In a significant move to alleviate financial stress post-Christmas, Camden Council is providing free £800 Cost of Living payments to identified households in need. This initiative is part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Household Support Fund (HSF).

Camden Council has clarified that households facing emergency financial situations can apply for a payment of up to £500 through the government-funded HSF. The application deadline for this support is set for March 31, 2025. The eligibility criteria mirror those of the Cost of Living Crisis Fund.

Support for Pensioners and Families

Pensioners identified as low-income by the council will receive a £300 Post Office voucher. This voucher is aimed at covering essential costs such as bills and food during the winter months. These vouchers are also funded through the Household Support Fund.

In addition, families in Camden who receive Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support and have children up to the age of 18 will benefit from supermarket vouchers, valid until March 31, 2025. Children attending Camden schools and receiving free school meals are also eligible for this support. The council specifies that families on benefits such as Universal Credit must ensure their children are registered for free school meals to receive these vouchers.

The voucher distribution is structured as follows:

  • £15 per eligible child in October 2024
  • £30 per eligible child in December 2024
  • £15 per eligible child in February 2025

Additional Government Support

The government’s Cost of Living support includes various financial aids such as income and disability benefits, assistance with bills and allowances, childcare, housing, and travel expenses.

Warning Against Scams

The council advises residents to be cautious of fraudulent communications. Any call, email, or message requesting personal information, such as bank details or passwords, could be a scam. Residents are urged to verify the authenticity of such messages to protect their personal information.

This initiative underscores Camden Council’s commitment to supporting its residents through challenging financial times, leveraging government funds to provide necessary relief and assistance.
